Mahjong for the Guy Who'd Rather Be on the Water (or the Trail)

MahDong's Fishing and Weekend Overland sets bring the game outdoors. Trout CRAKs, Half Dome jokers, bobber DOTs — mahjong built for men who live outside.

Most hobbies have their own gear culture. Fly fishing has rods worth more than a mortgage payment. Overlanding has trucks built for roads that don't exist on any map. The gear is part of the identity.

Mahjong never had that — not for the outdoors crowd. Until now.

The Fishing Set

The MahDong Fishing Set is built for the guy who plans his calendar around opening weekend and considers a bad day on the water still better than a good day at the office.

Every tile is custom-designed around the sport:

  • CRAK tiles — spotted trout. The kind you catch, photograph, and release. Or don't release, depending on the regulations.
  • DOT tiles — fishing bobbers. Red and white, exactly as they should be.
  • Themed joker tiles — built specifically for the Fishing Set
  • 160 custom tiles total — nothing generic, nothing recycled from another set

The full package includes a premium carrying case and a themed playing mat. The kind of setup that looks right on a tailgate or a cabin table.

The Weekend Overland Set

The Weekend Overland Set is for the truck crowd. The guys with a rooftop tent, a recovery kit, and a cooler full of something cold. The ones who spend their weekends on forest roads with no cell service and no complaints about it.

The tiles reflect that:

  • CRAK tiles — mountain landscapes. The kind you drive toward, not away from.
  • Joker tiles — Half Dome. Yosemite's most recognizable face, on a mahjong tile.
  • Landmark imagery throughout the full tile set — national parks, backcountry terrain, the visual language of the outdoors
  • 10 joker tiles — including the landmark jokers that make this set distinct

160 custom tiles. Premium case. Themed playing mat.

The Crossover Appeal

Here's the thing about the outdoors crowd: they already know how to be patient, read conditions, and play a long game. Those are exactly the skills that make someone good at mahjong.

The Fishing Set and the Weekend Overland Set are built for the off-season — the months when the water's frozen or the trails are muddy and the crew needs something to do indoors that doesn't involve staring at a screen.

Four players. A good table. A set that looks like it belongs in the same truck as the rest of the gear.

Initial shipments expected October 2026.
